TYPE 2 DIABETES
OK, THE AWAKENING CAME YESTERDAY

I have created many web sites,
written articles and made many
Health Improving Presentations.
Over the past 12 years, from extensive
research, personal health situations,
and having helped many with their
health situations, I've been aware of a thing known as DIABETES.
A relative suffers from it. But I was never privy to their pain and suffering.
Yesterday, I had a follow-up visit with my Podiatrist.
But from the images
I saw in the Podiatrist Surgeons Magazine, I was truly moved. Never had I associated Diabetes
with what I learned
about how it affects the FEET. WOW. SCARY !
BUT there are the other concerns too.
Problem is that I never got around to checking into it. I am now finding out about this developing-epidemic.
Yesterday, at a "follow-up" visit
with my
podiatrist, I picked a magazine from the rack
(getting ready to "wait"
for
my time with the podiatrist).
I was absolutely shocked at what I saw (images) and what I read.
Know this: My podiatrist is a surgeon of podiatry.
She is the daughter of my long-time
podiatrist who recently retired.
Yesterdays visit was my second with the young female podiatrist.
She is very good!
I was amazed at the trouble and down-right disgusting images of devastation I saw and read about.
Yes, I've begun to
research the subject !
Imagine a medical condition that opens the door to a wide
range of chronic health
problems, leaving you vulnerable
to cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure,
stroke, and kidney failure.
The condition is type 2
diabetes, and it currently claims
about 16 million Americans.
That's the combined populations of Colorado, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Connecticut.
Unfortunately, too many doctors respond to patients
diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
the only way they know how:
they medicate. As a result, as many as six million
type 2 diabetics are taking drugs called thiazolidinediones (TZDs)
that improve insulin sensitivity.
Now a new study shows that this class of drugs may sharply
increase the risk of
pulmonary edema and congestive heart failure.
Most cases of type 2 diabetes are the result of poor diet
and insufficient exercising
habits that catch up with us as
we age. Fortunately, the insulin resistance that
triggers type 2 diabetes can often be reversed
by modifying the diet and
beginning a regular exercise program.
Because type 2 diabetes increases the risk of so many
health problems, the last thing a
diabetic needs are the potential side effects that come with the use of
any synthetic drug.
It's clear from everything we know that changes in
diet and exercise are
the best medicine foremost type 2 diabetics.

What am I doing getting into this subject?
Particularly, because I know very little about it.

telling you of the importance of you taking action to improve

Type 2 Diabetes is out of control --- that's a news
statement ---
and we are now in early 2006.
It is out of control in America
and it is the third leading cause of death.
What is causing this epidemic? Diet and lack of exercise are the two biggest culprits.
Americans eat too much sugar-saturated food that creates
quick
spikes in blood sugar followed by increased insulin needs.
They do not improve insulin response with daily exercise.
INSULIN RESISTANCE = THE DANGEROUS RESULT
The pancreas, which produces insulin, gets worn out. It
still
produces enough insulin, but the insulin does NOT
move the
glucose out of the blood to the cells in the body. The cells
become starved for energy, which is why
Americans live in a
yo-yo world of high energy and utter fatigue followed by
more serious health pitfalls.
If ignored, Type 2 diabetes may lead to heart disease,
kidney
failure, nerve damage, blindness and amputations.
5 WAYS YOU CAN AVOID OR REVERSE THE THREAT OF DIABETES FOR LIFE
1 = EAT COMPLEX CARBOHYDRATES, FORGET THE POP! Here's
a good
rule of thumb to follow: The longer food takes to chew, the
better it is for you. All processed food and beverages
packed with sugar and salt and will only create
glucose
spikes which you must avoid.
Your ideal diet would be
low in fat and high in slow-digesting, complex carbs
like
legumes, whole grains and most fruits and vegetables.
2 = MOVE IT OR LOSE IT! Regular daily exercise
improves the
ability of your cells to accept insulin which, in turn,
allows them to burn glucose more efficiently.
3 = SUNLIGHT IS YOUR FRIEND! When you take a 20
minute walk
outside, you can get an extra shot of natural insulin which
will help you normalize your blood sugar levels.
(Plus,
natural Vitamin D3, which your body converts from sunlight,
is believed to help lower insulin resistance and reduce
blood pressure.)
4 = LOSE A LITTLE GAIN A LOT! 95% if all diabetics
carry
too much weight and body fat. Which is why doctors
and
health professionals recommend monitoring
your total
percent of body fat.
They recommend no more than
24% body fat for women and no more
than 17% for men.
Lose a little body fat, gain a lot of health for life.

It's getting to the point that we recognize that "all
disease
is caused by autotoxication (self-poisoning)
due to acid
accumulation in the body".
In the book = "Alkalize or Die" a statement was made that
